Steady progress in the Japanese market

Mørenot Aquaculture has seen a gradual increase in activity in the Japanese aquaculture sector over the past years. Since delivering the first 110-meter pens in 2018, the company has supplied and assembled more than 45 pens in Japan, in sizes ranging from 63 to 157 meters in circumference. This has contributed to a stronger presence in a market where international suppliers have traditionally had limited reach.

New contract marks further development

Earlier this year, one of Japan’s major seafood companies signed an agreement for five 157-meter pens, scheduled for delivery by summer 2026. The company carried out a thorough, multi-year evaluation of both domestic and international alternatives before choosing Mørenot Aquaculture solutions.

They continue to assess other types of equipment, including mooring systems, nets and digital tools. As part of their process, a delegation visited one of Mørenot Aquaculture’s ongoing assembly sites in August, followed by meetings in Tokyo this autumn.

Dialogue with existing and new contacts

During the same trip, Mørenot Aquaculture met with two existing clients — one located in southern Japan and another operating in Hokkaido. Both shared updates on ongoing operations and upcoming needs and expressed interest in continued cooperation.

The team also met with potential new clients who are in an early phase of exploring equipment options from foreign suppliers. Several of Mørenot Aquaculture’s existing customers highlighted that the equipment they use performs well under local conditions and meets their operational requirements.
