A meeting place for the fishing industry

Nor-Fishing is an international trade exhibition where fishers, equipment suppliers, researchers and other industry professionals come together to discuss today’s challenges and tomorrow’s solutions. Technology, practical experience and personal connections are central to the event.

For Mørenot Refa, the exhibition is an important opportunity to meet the people who use our equipment every day. Conversations with fishers and vessel owners provide insight into what works on board and where improvements are needed. This dialogue helps us develop fishing gear and solutions that meet the industry’s needs.

At stand A-102, Mørenot Fishery and Vónin Refa came together under the Mørenot Refa name. Our joint presence provided an opportunity to share our expertise and discuss equipment, services and solutions with customers and partners.

Meet our “Minister of Fishing Nets”

Among the colleagues representing us at the exhibition was Lars Tor Silnes, better known as Lasse. Kyst og Fjord interviewed him about his long career in the fishing industry, introducing him by his playful Norwegian nickname, “fiskerinotministeren” — roughly translated as “Minister of Fishing Nets”.

Lasse started with a summer job at a net repair workshop at just 12 years old. This year, he celebrates 50 years of experience repairing, selling and developing fishing equipment. He has spent the last twelve years with Mørenot.

In the interview, he discusses practical improvements that can make equipment more durable and everyday work on board easier and safer. His experience highlights the value of working closely with fishers and finding new applications for existing solutions.

Experience meets new ideas

Nor-Fishing also connects the industry with its next generation. During this year’s exhibition, Lasse served as a mentor in Student Camp, where students worked on new ideas for the fishing industry.

The students benefited from his extensive experience. In turn, Lasse praised their knowledge and ideas, emphasising how experienced professionals and young talent can learn from each other.
