Mørenot Aquaculture strengthens its ties with Chile

Puerto Montt was the setting for a strategic visit by a representative of Mørenot Aquaculture, who arrived in the Los Lagos region with a clear objective: to strengthen collaboration with Chilean salmon farming, share new technologies, and build joint solutions in an industry increasingly focused on sustainability.

Norwegian technologies seek to transform Chilean aquaculture

Chile is a key player in global aquaculture,” said Petrie, who explained that the country's scale, experience, and challenges make it a natural partner for the development and adaptation of innovative solutions.

The visit is part of the Norwegian company's efforts to listen to the local market and offer tools adapted to large-scale production conditions.

During his visit to the country, Petrie provided details of three technological advances developed by Mørenot Aquaculture, which include:

• Bio Seize, a biowaste collection system that converts biowaste into valuable resources and minimizes its environmental impact.
• MarWall, a semi-enclosed barrier against sea lice and jellyfish, which improves water quality and fish welfare.
• MarDeep, a submersible net that maintains stable conditions throughout the entire cultivation cycle, reducing stress and handling.

While these technologies are not yet commercially available, they are already being prepared for large-scale testing and certification.

"Our focus is long-term. We want to build solutions alongside our customers, not simply sell products," he emphasized.

Mørenot Aquaculture highlights key cooperation between Norway and Chile

When asked about Norway's vision for the Chilean industry, Petrie highlighted Mørenot's priority on four pillars of sustainability: circular solutions, climate efficiency, employee well-being, and an ethical value chain. He also emphasized that the free trade agreement between Norway and Chile, which excludes tariffs on aquaculture products, has been key to facilitating technical and commercial cooperation.

Mørenot Aquaculture, part of the Hampidjan Group, works closely with Kohinoor Rope, based in Puerto Montt. The company offers everything from nets and corrals to digital mooring monitoring and analysis platforms, offering a comprehensive view of the aquaculture production chain.

“We want to listen, learn, and share. Norway and Chile face similar challenges and can grow together in innovation, security, and sustainability,” Petrie concluded.
