Meet Lasse – our very own “Minister of Fishing Nets”

With 50 years of experience in the fishing industry, Lars Tor Silnes, better known as Lasse, has plenty of knowledge to share. Norwegian industry newspaper Kyst og Fjord met our colleague at Nor-Fishing 2026 to discuss fishing equipment, practical improvements and his unusual nickname, “fiskerinotminister” – roughly translated as “Minister of Fishing Nets”.

From a summer job to a lifelong career

Lasse started with a summer job at a net repair workshop at just 12 years old. This year, he celebrates 50 years of experience repairing, selling and developing equipment for the fishing industry. He has spent the last twelve years with Mørenot.

Throughout his career, he has developed an in-depth understanding of fishing gear and the demands of working on board. In the interview, he discusses practical improvements that can make equipment more durable and everyday work easier and safer.

For Lasse, developing better equipment starts with understanding the challenges fishers face and recognising how both new ideas and existing solutions can help.

Sharing experience with the next generation

During Nor-Fishing, Lasse also served as a mentor in Student Camp, where students worked on new ideas for the fishing industry.

The students benefited from his extensive experience. In the interview, he also praises their knowledge and ideas. Learning goes both ways: Lasse contributes practical industry experience, while the students bring fresh perspectives and technological insight.

A colleague we are proud of

Lasse combines extensive expertise with curiosity and a commitment to sharing what he knows. This makes him a valued colleague and an important part of our team.

We are proud to have our very own “Minister of Fishing Nets” on board and thank Kyst og Fjord for sharing his story!
