In 2008 MøreNot started developing a new cod trawl.
After a project period with customer, we ended at a model in
size 738 # (155mm). Background for this type of trawl was to
have a trawl with higher vertical opening, and good
water flow. The towing pressure (pr. side) should be 9-10
ton.
The purpose was also to get a new large user-friendly
trawl, as an alternative to twin-trawling. Choice of netting and
mesh-sizes were accurately considered to get the lowest possible
oil consumption.
- It is always important to work with customers to develop new
products, says head of trawl department, Terje Ringstad.
In 2008 MøreNot entered into an agreement with the customer to test
the new trawl. The trawl worked very well from the
start. After the test period, MøreNot made a few minor
adjustments, and also the rigging onboard became optimized. The new
trawl worked so satisfactory that it soon became "no. 1
trawl" on board.
Because of the results, more
skippers became interested in this trawl, andtoday quite a few
Wessel's uses the trawl. There are increasingly more interest
for this trawl in the market.
- From new users it is stated that they have never used a new
type of trawl, that catch so well, compared to what they see
on the echo recorder, states Terje Ringstad.
Other feedback from customers;
-Easier to tow than the standard 520# trawl - lower oil
consumption.
-Good flow, the fish goes quickly in the bag, few
"gillers"
-Headline-height 6.5 - 7m. Spread between the
doors about
150m by 90 m length sweep.
-In use for cod, saithe, haddock and halibut.
Trawl is normally kept in stock with 39.8 m and 31.1 m
fishing line.
MøreNot also supply scaled-down model in the range
630 #. Fishing Line 31.1 m and 25.4 m.
