Development of MøreNots large 738# cod trawl started in 2008. The trawl is purchased by a lot of white-fish trawlers and this tells us about the trawl's performance. In cooperation with several of our customers we have developed  a new kite for trawls.

MøreNot had a successful test trip to the flume tank in Hirtshals with skippers and deck bosses in October 2010. One of the purposes was to test kite on the 738# MøreNot in combination with sondecable.

During the test we expected to find improvements like:

-Increased vertical opening.

-More spread between trawl doors.

-Even more stable trawl.

The test was promising.  We achieved up to 10 m headline height, while maintaining the good shape.

Based on test results, several skippers started to use kite and sondecable. They reports about good catches. The trawl is mostly operated with 8-9 m vertical opening. 

Characteristics of MøreNot 738# Cod trawl:

-Easier to tow than standard 520# - lower oil consumption.

-Good flow, the fish goes quickly in the bag, few "gillers".

-Vertical opening 6,5-7m.  Spread between the doors about 150m by 90m length sweep.

-Vertical opening 8-9m when using kite and cable.

-Used for cod, saithe, haddock and halibut. 

-User-friendly.

From new users of the 738# Cod trawl it is stated that they have never used a new type of trawl, that catch so well, in  terms of what they see on the echo recorder.

Trawl is normally kept in stock with 39,8 m  and 31,1 m fishing line.

MøreNot also supply a scaled-down model in the range 630#.  Fishing line 31.1 m and 25,4 m.
